To me, she’s going to all the time be my film mother, thanks primarily to motion pictures like “Shut Encounters of the Third Variety,” “A Christmas Story,” and “Harry and the Hendersons.” That was my introduction to Dillon’s on-screen presence and he or she radiated that caring, exhausted, and barely goofy power that each child needs in a mother. She’s not the type of actor to vanish into the background and simply be “the spouse” or “the mother,” even when many of the roles she’s recognized for fall into these classes. 

Dillon was in a position to quietly inject her characters with life like emotion and, extra importantly, humor. “A Christmas Story” is an ideal instance. To Ralphie, she was the barrier between him and his beloved Pink Ryder BB gun, which may have put her in a villainous gentle since we have been seeing the story by Ralphie’s eyes, however as a substitute, Mrs. Parker comes throughout as candy and supportive and also you even get glimpses of how playful she is with “The Outdated Man” aka her husband, performed by the late, nice Darren McGavin.
