Politico received a copy of the official two-minute trailer Unprecedented, the documentary covering the final months of the Trump campaign through January 2021. Therefore, the access and recorded events are likely to provide critical and persuasive evidence.
To date, there is no release date beyond “summer 2022,” nor is it possible to know if the select committee’s subpoena will push back the release of the three-part series. What is known is that the select committee postponed its scheduled hearings to later in July after receiving footage from the film. The committee is also reported to be interested in an event in late September 2020 where Don Jr., Eric Trump and Steve Bannon appear to be discussing a plan to retain the presidency even if they lose the election. Finally, we know that filmmaker and expected witness Alex Holder remains under armed guard. He’s perhaps the committee’s most valuable witness.
There is no “revelation” in the trailer. It does, however, offer a clear focus on the Trump family (as opposed to aides) and a line, uttered by an unknown voice, that says Trump’s plan has always been a “dynastic one,” which isn’t shocking but remains chilling. The trailer flashes from interview to interview and you can feel the smugness that smacks of the Trump kids, who also clearly saw this as a dynastic endeavor, their self-manipulation has never been more apparent.
The trailer also includes gripping, film-quality footage of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, which may provide evidence in certain insurgent trials, but more importantly, throws the viewer right into the center of the violence Trump intended to bring to the Capitol. The emotional gut punch could push the public and prosecutors much further to prosecute Trump for the fight that took place that day.
There are also moments of light in the trailer. Trump is obsessed with placing a glass of water.
It will take time for the committee to review the film and edited video for evidence, we cannot know how long but we can feel the urgency. The committee has momentum.
One element of the trailer is self-evident. The Trumps saw the documentary as a promotional tool, as an expensive commercial, and as such they sound open and careless. Little did they know it would be reviewed by prosecutors for evidence of hate speech. In that sense, the footage could prove pure gold for the committee and prosecutors, providing new evidence for the viewer in the room as it happens. It couldn’t be more convincing.
It’s worth watching the trailer to get a feel for the Trumps’ attitude during filming and to “feel” like you’re there.
Received exclusively from POLITICO, the trailer for Holder’s “unprecedented” documentaries highlights his unique access to the Trump family and includes previously unreleased footage of DONALD TRUMP, DONALD TRUMP JR., ERIC TRUMP, IVANKA TRUMP and JARED KUSHNER. Watch here: https://t.co/QiiWHHwUTS
