If you’re looking for a new job this year, you might want to start your search in these cities.
Earlier this month, job board Glassdoor released its annual ranking of the 100 Best Places to Work for 2022, detailing the Metros that hosted the largest number of companies on the list.
Companies headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco and San Jose) dominated Glassdoor’s ranking, occupying 30 spots. Other top metropolitan areas were New York, Boston and Los Angeles. In reviews, people praised the companies in these cities for their flexible work environments, strong benefits packages and access to executives, among other things.
For the report, Glassdoor searched millions of employee reviews and company insights submitted between October 2020 and October 2021. Focusing on companies with at least 1,000 employees and 75 reviews, the researchers rated each organization on a 5-point scale based on career opportunities, compensation, culture, and other factors.
“A lot of these subways are places where tech companies have done really well,” Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong told CNBC Make It. “Tech companies are leaders in offering flexible working arrangements to employees and are growing strongly experienced in their business because we have relied more on technology during the coronavirus pandemic…which benefits all employees.”
The top-rated cities are also places that attract many young professionals with “vibrant communities, thriving restaurant and entertainment scenes,” says Chris Von Der Ahe, senior client partner at global consulting firm Korn Ferry. “There are many large companies in these cities that also offer young employees strong basic training and career opportunities – and then they don’t want to leave.”
It’s important to note that although employers refer to these cities as “home,” several companies on Glassdoor’s list, including Google, LinkedIn and Zillow, are allowing employees to continue working remotely amid the ongoing pandemic.
