WHY IT IS IMPORTANT
The USA populationages quickly. According to the CDC, adults over 65 made up 15% of the population in 2016. However, by 2030, seniors are projected to make up around 25% of the population.
Industry experts have highlighted the need for more innovation in elderly care and living.
“It is important that we get it right for so many reasons”, Dr. Joe Kvedar, Senior Advisor on Virtual Nursing at Mass General Brigham, said MobiHealthNews in 2020. “In 2050 there will be twice as many people over 65 on earth as there are under 5, and it will be more and more dramatic, because fortunately we are living longer. But the longer we live, the more health services we need. “
THE BIGGER TREND
Speech technology is becoming increasingly popular in the senior tech arena. In September,Amazon launched the Alexa Together subscription service, which enables caregivers to support aging family members at home and remotely monitor them.
The technology has also been suggested as a means of combating loneliness, in particularduring the pandemic. Orbita, a healthcare voice chatbot maker, received $ 9 million in 2020 Series A funding. At the time of the funding, the company reported an increased number of inquiries due to the pandemic.
