This seems like a good time to remind ourselves that MAGA has always been a Russian-backed operation to weaken every facet of classic Western liberalism in the United States, particularly our adherence to democracy. Putin and his allies are forming a Republican party unwilling to face the changing demographics and values in the modern United States. Trump can quote “no collusion” all he likes, but the fact is the Russians pumped money straight into the NRA, fully backed Trump in 2016, certainly did it again in 2020, Tucker Carlson still as propaganda in the use Russian television and – As Marjorie Taylor-Greene becomes more influential than even John McCain could have been at his peak, Russia is using MTG to support Putin’s argument here in the United States that it is Joe Biden who is responsible for all of these responsible for Ukrainian deaths.
According to Marjorie, if we had left Ukraine to just defend itself, we could have had Russia as an ally, but we screwed up. We helped Ukraine and now Ukrainians are dying. It’s Joe Biden’s fault.
Before you laugh and say “no one is going to believe her,” there is a new YouGov poll just this morning showing that 68% of Fox viewers believe January 6th was primarily instigated by the Left to Making Trump look bad.
Despite the fact that Marjorie’s minute-long diatribe is contradictory and unprincipled, it represents the mindset of many MAGA voters. Putin has no influence on it. According to Marjorie, the United States is responsible for the horrors in Ukraine:

MAGA was born as an updated version of the long-held KGB doctrine that America could be destroyed from within if the Russians could only gain control of an American political party. From the 1950s to the 1970s, Russians focused on the American left. In the early 21st century, Russia pumped money into the NRA, and control was all but cemented at the 2016 Republican Convention, when the Trump team demanded only a change in the Republican platform, the part that opposed the 2014 Russian invasion part of Ukraine. MAGA was then produced in Russia, MAGA is now produced in Russia.
In 2020, the GOP had no platform. Autocrats don’t have “political beliefs”; they believe in power.
We would all do well to accept the fact that Republican Party leaders are looking to the Russian government and seeing what it wants. A one-party state run by the right people, with no time for your niceties, and classic liberalism. Fascism is a much better system when the main goal is to keep wealthy conservative white men in charge. Despite Yeoman’s work through the Special Committee, things continue to adjust to ensure we get there even if Trump goes to jail, check out our newly freed SCOTUS. The abolition of rigid decision-making will be essential to ushering in a new breed of American government that is constitutional in name only.
Marjorie Taylor-Greene doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to make her arguments believable, but she gives us the gist here. We should never have stood up for democracy. We could have been allies with Russia (wouldn’t that have been great), but now she worries that we won’t be allies for long. We messed it up. The United States could have been lucky and been Putin’s friend, instead we chose to destroy Ukraine.
Putin couldn’t tell the story any better.
