Following the Uvalde shooting, March For Our Lives announced a new national march on DC for June 11th.
March for Our Lives Calls for Federal Action on Gun Violence
According to a statement provided to PoliticusUSA by March For Our Lives:
After the horrific mass shootings at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and the racial massacre at a convenience store in Buffalo, New York, along with the increase in everyday shootings and gunfights among children, the urgency of this moment could not be clearer. Our political leaders have repeatedly failed to provide a serious and urgent response to the nation’s gun violence crisis. We can’t afford that. We’re on loan until the next shoot. That’s why we’re taking to the streets again and organizing another national march.
On June 11th we will march in Washington DC and cities across the country to remind the nation’s political leaders that the people of this country hold the power and we refuse to be captive while we are in our schools, religious sites and at work being killed and terrorized trying to live our lives. Almost a hundred marches are already in the books and we are planning more. It’s time we got back up and took to the streets to demand action. Every single member of Congress must act immediately for life-saving measures like universal background checks before the next child or grandmother is shot.
Either we change or we die waiting.
March For Our Lives mobilized to take on the gun industry
Millions of people organized and marched across the country in one of the largest days of protests in US history. March Of For Our Lives said their actions have led to the passage of 150 state gun safety laws.
March For Our Lives is one of the few groups that managed to take over and beat the NRA as the Senate rumors about a possible bipartisan gun violence deal this protest could make a difference.
The message sent is clear. Young people will not sit around waiting to be shot at school.
