MP Marjorie Taylor Greene insists Kevin McCarthy doesn’t have enough Republican caucus support to be a spokesman.
Greene said on Matt Gaetz’s podcast:
We know Kevin McCarthy has a problem in our conference. He doesn’t have the full support to be a speaker.
It doesn’t have the votes it has because many of us are very unhappy that Republicans are not being held accountable, while conservatives like me, Paul Gosar and many others are constantly taking on the abuse of the Democrats.
The pro-coup insurgent faction within the GOP of the House of Representatives wants McCarthy to punish all Republicans who voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill, and if he doesn’t, they won’t elect him as spokesman.
If McCarthy were to lose the spokesmanship again, having been defeated once by the House Freedom Caucus when he ran to succeed John Boehner, it would be a devastating humiliation for him.
Kevin McCarthy has given way to the right in House GOP on every question. He is a weak leader who is so desperate to be House Speaker that he allows local terrorists to run the facility.
If Taylor Greene is right, it doesn’t matter what McCarthy gives to the right, they will not support him as a speaker.
