The longer Kevin McCarthy speaks, the more angry and irritated the Republicans behind him get.
The people behind McCarthy are supposed to be his cheering department. The Republicans are supposed to serve as the fuel that keeps McCarthy alive.
Instead, they check their phones, look the other way, and seem increasingly upset that Kevin McCarthy, who had no more words to say about two minutes into his speech, refused to shut up.
The Guardian’s Hugo Lowell tweeted:
The House GOP leader says when Dems evaporate from the chamber, it doesn’t mean he’ll stop just because they leave – though Dems doesn’t seem to care anymore and now the Republicans behind him seem excited.

Spokesman Pelosis’ office summarized general opinion on McCarthy’s stunt in a statement to PoliticusUSA:
We’re glad we’re not the only ones who can’t follow the meandering talk of minority leader McCarthy that has nothing to do with the Build Back Better Act.
Tonight, Kevin McCarthy previewed the best Republican attacks on the deficit-reducing, anti-inflationary Build Back Better Act.
As it hopefully draws to a close, we all wonder: does Kevin McCarthy know where he is right now?
McCarthy’s speech had nothing to do with Build Back Better. It was a disjointed bunch of nonsense that showed the kind of unprepared leader McCarthy is.
It’s a guarantee that Saturday Night Live will open cold with it. Kevin McCarthy was so bad.
Everything the minority leader achieved annoyed everyone within earshot, including his own Republicans.
