MUMBAI — After three days looking the BBC’s workplaces in India, Indian tax authorities say they discovered proof of unpaid taxes and undeclared revenue.

With out naming the BBC, India’s Finance Ministry says its tax inspectors have discovered “essential proof” exhibiting “discrepancies and inconsistencies” within the tax declarations of “a distinguished worldwide media firm.”

Press freedom advocates around the globe have decried this week’s raids on the BBC — during which journalists and accountants alike have been questioned, and had their telephones and laptops searched. Some slept of their workplace for 2 nights.

The searches got here weeks after the British broadcaster aired a documentary crucial of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — and his authorities banned it from being proven right here.
