Federal prosecutors and the 1/6 committee appear to be building a case that Trump corruptly obstructed the confirmation of the election.
The Daily Beast reported:
With federal prosecutors increasingly bringing up obscure criminal charges to jail Jan. 6 insurgents, Congressional investigators appear to be building a case that could lead to the same indictment against former President Donald Trump.
It may seem strange that a federal law against witness manipulation should be used in this way, but the law contains a provision that makes it a crime for anyone who “corrupts … obstructs, influences or hinders” an official process, or tries to do so.
It’s a logical question. If the 1/6 riots are charged with corrupting an official process, what does that mean for the former president who organized the rally and sent his supporters to the Capitol?
The insurgents are guilty of obstructing an official process so that the same charge against Donald Trump could hold.
Trump is already in criminal danger in New York and Georgia. While most have been focused on the 1/6 Committee investigation, they could exponentially increase Donald Trump’s potential criminal liability for the Capitol attack.
