Even if only two teams are goodbye this week, our week 11 fantasy defense rankings are feeling the impact. The rams are usually a must-have while the broncos can act as waiver wire streamers. Perhaps just as importantly, the Broncos are the kind of matchup that D / ST Sleepers create, which thins things out a bit too.
Even so, there are still some matchup-based games available this week; unfortunately most of them are not very good defenses. The Eagles (vs. Saints) are probably the best widespread defensive unit, but Trevor Siemian and the Saints are still playing pretty efficiently, so the matchup isn’t particularly attractive, at least on paper. The 49ers (@ Jaguars), Dolphins (@ Jets) and Washington (@ Panthers) are also in pretty good positions, but all of them are at risk given their level of play this year.
WEEK 11 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | Kicker
The Jets (vs. Dolphins) and Falcons (vs. Patriots) also have cheap home matches, but they are even weaker defensively than the ones listed above, so you would be taking a big risk early on too.
WEEK 11 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide-angle receiver | Narrow end | Kicker
Some owners may have to take a risk this week as lineup regulars like the Colts (@ Bills), Cardinals (@ Seahawks), and Steelers (@ Chargers) find themselves in tough situations. The Bengals were a popular game again this year, but a matchup in Vegas won’t be easy.
Ultimately, you can choose to stick with a D / ST that has been good for you for most of the year over a mediocre defense with a cheap matchup. We tend to prefer the matches, but at this point in the season it’s important to consider your record and the prospects for the rest of the season. If you are sailing towards the fantasy playoffs, you can afford to walk the “high-floor” route. When you’re in “Must-Win” mode, play the matchups, go for the high ceiling, and worry about the next week on Tuesday.
It’s also a good idea to watch future matches and have multiple D / STs with you so you can stay one step ahead of the streaming game. Philadelphia, for example, has the Giants, Jets, bye, Washington, Giants, and Washington through week 17. Even if you don’t want to use the Eagles against the Saints this week, having them around isn’t a bad idea. Likewise, you may not like the Chargers versus the Steelers (or maybe you do), but future matchups against the Denver (Week 12), Giants (14) and Texans (16) could cause the Bolts to have an impact on the Have stretch.
Overall, this isn’t a great week for defense. Some of the top units have cheap matchups which is always great for those who own these D / STs, but it’s not a great week if you need a streamer. Of course, any defense can get lucky and return some takeaways or TDs, so go with your gut and hope for the best.
Note: We’ll be updating these D / ST leaderboards later this week so check back for the latest analysis and player movement.
Fantasy Defense Rankings Week 11: If you want to start, you can play fantasy football at D / ST
|1||Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. NYG|
|2||Tennessee Titans versus HOU.|
|3||Buffalo Bills vs. IND|
|4th||Carolina Panthers vs. WHAT|
|5||New England Patriots @ ATL|
|6th||Cleveland Browns versus DET.The Browns massively disappointed in a slightly cheap matchup last week, but the Lions just don’t score while also allowing a good amount of sacks. Detroit hasn’t broken 19 points since Week 1, and in the last six games they’ve given up at least four sacks four times. Cleveland has a high floor, and if it can make a couple of takeaways, it will have a high ceiling too.|
|7th||Dallas Cowboys @ KC.The Chiefs are back on track after a series of multi-turnover games, but the Cowboys are collecting at their best. With at least two INTs in six games this year and multiple sacks in all but three games, Dallas has some big advantages, although the Chiefs are likely to get a good score.|
|8th||Baltimore Ravens @ CHI.Chicago seemed to turn a corner before parting, but it still allowed three sacks and flipped it twice. The Ravens haven’t enforced many takeaways this year, but they come from a four-sack game and tend to keep scores low against mediocre offenses. The Bears will certainly qualify, so consider the Ravens a high-ceilinged D / ST this week.|
|9||Miami Dolphins @ NYJ.Miami is finally starting to live up to its preseason hype, releasing consecutive monster games. It was one thing for the Dolphins to generate five sacks and four takeaways against Houston, but to follow suit against Baltimore with four sacks, two takeaways and a D / ST touchdown certainly raised some eyebrows. It’s also worth noting that Miami has only allowed 19 points in the past two weeks combined. After five turnovers in week 10, the Jets remain a top three team in terms of fantasy points per game D / STs are allowed, so the Dolphins are able to have another big week.|
|10||Philadelphia Eagles versus NO.Despite a QB switch a few weeks ago, the Saints offensive has remained pretty stable. Still, we find it hard to believe that Trevor Siemian will continue to play largely free of turnover football. New Orleans approved four bags last week, so we may see some cracks in the system. The Eagles have had a great 10 week and have shown two impressive performances in their last three games. Think of Phillly as a boom-or-bust option that probably deserves to be used during a difficult week.|
|11||San Francisco 49ers @ JAX.San Francisco was one of the biggest disappointments of the season, but virtually every D / ST is collecting Fantasy Points against the Jags. Even when teams don’t get a lot of bags or takeaways, like Seattle in week 8 and Buffalo in week 9, the jags score so few points that D / STs still have decent fantasy days. In these games Jacksonville scored seven and nine points, respectively.|
|12th||Washington Football Team @ CAR.The Panthers’ first game without Sam Darnold still ended with two ball losses, but with zero sacks allowed and 34 attack points scored, the Panthers could no longer be a “cheap” matchup. Even so, no one is scared of PJ Walker or Cam Newton, and Washington has been decent in the last five games. During that time span, Washington has an average of 2.4 bags and 1.8 snack bags. It still allows for a good number of points, but there is clearly decent bottom here. However, Chase Young (knee) thinks that might be reason enough to look elsewhere, but it’s not that he came up with big numbers this year, so we still believe Washington can have a decent game.|
|13||Los Angeles Chargers vs. PIT|
|14th||Arizona Cardinals @ SEA|
|fifteen||Cincinnati Bengals @ LV|
|16||Green Bay Packers @ MIN|
|17th||Indianapolis Colts @ BUF|

|21||Atlanta Falcons versus NE|
|22nd||Las Vegas Raiders versus CIN|
|23||Minnesota Vikings vs. GB|
|24||Jacksonville Jaguars vs. SF|
|25th||Chicago Bears versus BAL|
|26||Detroit Lions @ CLE|
|27||Seattle Seahawks versus ARI|
|28||Kansas City Chiefs versus DAL|
|29||Houston Texans @ TEN|
|30th||New York Giants @ TB|
