The federal government expects to obtain round 30-40 million tonnes of wheat through the advertising 12 months 2023-2024, stated Meals Company of India (FCI) chairman and managing director Ashok Okay Meena including that the wheat crop is in good situation as of now.

“Space sown to wheat is greater than final 12 months. The present situation of wheat crop is excellent. Our procurement must be regular at 300-400 lakh tonne in 2023-24,” Meena stated durin a press briefing.

Final 12 months, wheat procurement for the central pool had declined to 18.79 MT from 43.3 MT within the 2021-22 advertising 12 months on account of early onset of warmth which led to a drop in manufacturing and elevated non-public buy of the commodity.

This led to an irregular improve within the value of the meals grain, compelling the federal government to promote wheat below the open market gross sales scheme (OMSS). The FCI, which is the nodal company of the federal government for procurement and distribution of meals grains for welfare schemes, has already undertaken three e-auctions to promote wheat to bulk consumers.
