WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The world’s largest airline commerce physique warned many airways shall be unable to fulfill looming U.S. deadlines to retrofit airplane altimeters to make sure they aren’t prone to 5G wi-fi interference and warned it may influence the summer season worldwide journey season.

Worldwide Air Transport Affiliation (IATA) Director Common Willie Walsh mentioned in a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg seen by Reuters that many operators is not going to make retrofit deadlines “owing to provide chain points, certification delays, and unavoidable logistical challenges.”

The letter added “it’s important that we acknowledge and settle for that truth and transfer collectively to alter our method to this concern now, earlier than many carriers are unable to proceed to serve the U.S. market through the peak summer season journey season.”
