Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) is a person of interest in the 1/6 Committee investigation. Rep. Banks has also sent letters to government agencies falsely claiming to be on the committee.
Rep. Liz Cheney, who is actually on the 1/6 Committee, put a letter from Banks to the Home Office on the record as evidence:
In the House of Commons, Liz Cheney put this on file and called Jim Banks for sending letters to government agencies claiming he was the senior member of the 1/6 committee even though he was not on the committee. pic.twitter.com/C1OxGeVhXN

Rep. Banks was one of Kevin McCarthy’s selections to the 1/6 committee, vetoed by Speaker Pelosi because Banks is one of the members of Congress under investigation for either information or a role in the attack.
It’s not hard to see why Banks lied to government agencies. Rep, Banks wants to get out of any incriminating evidence that might be out there while sabotaging the 1/6 investigation.
Even if there are no house rules against what Banks did, he has definitely broken the house’s ethics rules and should face an ethics committee investigation.
An ethics committee investigation is no joke. It can lead to censure or even to expulsion from the house.
Republicans are desperate to stop the 1/6 investigation because they don’t want the American people to find out that the Capitol attack may have been an inside job and that Trump’s coup was backed by Republicans in Congress.
Rep. Jim Banks abused his power as a sitting member of Congress to undermine the 1/6 inquiry.
His behavior is not just corrupt. It should be criminal.
